Commonwealth Youth Games Isle of Man 2011
The fourth Commonwealth Youth Games will take place from the 7th September to 13th October 2011 on the Isle of Man.
The Isle of Man
The Isle of Man is located in the middle of the Irish Sea, 83 miles from Liverpool and 90 miles from Belfast
and is approximately 221 miles or 572 kilometres square, being 32.5 miles (50 kilometres) long from north to south and 13.5 miles (20 kilometres) wide from east to west.
The Island's resident population numbered 79,805 in April 2006 - roughly half being Manx born and the rest largely British. The Isle of Man has the unusual status of being one of the British Isles that is neither part of Great Britain nor the United Kingdom.
In May or June the island stages the TT probably the most famous motorbike races in the world.
The sports are Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Cycling, Artistic Gymnastics, Rugby 7s and Swimming. There will be a cap of 1000 athletes. Wales is negotiating with the IOM Organising Committee re the number of athlete places that will be allocated to Wales
Age limit
The Commonwealth Games Federation's published policy on the Commonwealth Youth Games, to compete in the Commonwealth Youth Games an athlete's 18th birthday must fall within the calendar year in which the Youth Games are held. In some sports, however, the Sport's International Federation may set a lower age limit.
Age limits for the IOM CYG will be
Athletics IAAF youth category, 16 to 17 years old, ie born in 1994 and 1995
Badminton, under 19, so 14 to 18, ie born in 1993, 1994,1995,1996, 1997
Boxing, 17 to 18, so athletes born in 1993 and 1994
Cycling 17 to 18, so athletes born in 1993 and 1994
Gymnastics FIG junior-
men 14 to 18, so born in 1993, 1994,1995, 1996 and 1997
women 13 to 15 so 1996, 1997, 1998
Rugby- 16 to 18 years old, so born in 1993, 1994, 1995
Swimming,
men 15 to 18 so born in 1993, 1994,1995,1996
women 14 to 17 athletes born in 1994, 1995,1996,1997
