OVERVIEW

Team Managers

As well as the General Team Manager - whose role is to look after the interests of the whole of Team Wales whilst at the Games - each sport normally has its own sport specific Team Manager.

Taking a team of highly trained athletes sometimes several thousand miles across the globe and ensuring their every need is catered for so that they are free to concentrate on performing to the best of their abilities has peculiar challenges.

Some of the factors that have to be considered by a Team Manager include:

  • Transportation
  • Acclimatisation
  • Time zones
  • Training facilities
  • Accommodation
  • Dietary requirements
  • Medical & physio care
  • Sports Science support
  • Boredom when out of competition & training

For athletes to be able to reach peak performance all the above must be properly considered and planned. A good Team Manager will ensure that athletes have absolutely nothing to concern themselves with - other than attaining a personal best performance - and hopefully collecting a medal!

The margins between success and failure in world class sport are tiny. Preparation is critical and the Team Manager plays a vital role in this regard.

Wales is blessed with a number of highly experienced and skilled Team Managers to call on to support our athletes in India.
